Statement

My work is informed by topophilia, a strong sense of place that encompasses the sensations and aesthetic experiences bound to a particular space where I grew up in the central-east and different corners of the Puerto Rican Archipelago. My knowledge and connection to a site guide my multidisciplinary research in the disciplines of ecological, geographical, anthropological, architectural, and oral histories. I explore the human condition, nature, the anthropogenic impact, memory, otherness, landscape, and globalization. I employ different materials and references to create an atemporal archaeological action about the site under study.

The lapse of time interacting in an environment, allows me to relate to and be part of the studied site, constantly aware of an egalitarian and non-authoritarian vision. My objective is to learn the particularities of the environment and human manifestations out of metropolitan areas, shifting the glance beyond the parameters of mainstream tourism. These phenomenological movements allow me the sensibility to observe while wandering the site, finding materials and references to craft an impression of the space and the experience. It’s a lyrical act that decolonizes knowledge and the land.
