Biography

Javier Orfon was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico (1989). In 2013, he earned his B.F.A. in Sculpture from the Fine Arts Department of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. He participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2022). In 2020, he had his third solo exhibition titled El Ojo de Arcilla , Hidrante Art Space in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He had the first international individual exhibition, La Casa de Las Almas curated by Abdiel Segarra Ríos, Espacio Cómplices, Madrid, Spain (2022). He has participated in several collective exhibitions in Puerto Rico, such as Unspoken Identities curated by Abdiel Segarra Ríos, Anamás Projects, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain (2023). El Momento del Yagrumo curated by Marina Reyes Franco, Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico (2021). No existe un Lugar en el Mundo Poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in The Wake of Hurricane Maria curated by Marcela Guerrero, Whitney Museum of American Art and his work is part of the permanent collection of this museum (2022-2023). He was selected recently as a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship recipient 2023. The artist lives and works between San Lorenzo and Caguas, Puerto Rico.
